I will ramble more about this later, when I'm home, but for now - this vid is for my wonderful and brilliant bff [personal profile] such_heights, whose birthday was a few weeks ago. <3 She loves this song, and this show, and she deserves ALL THE NICE THINGS IN THE WORLD, so here you go buddy. Have 4 minutes of the beautiful Bill Potts smiling at the universe, and the beautiful Twelfth Doctor smiling at Bill.

Huge, huge thanks to [personal profile] elisi, who watched several near-identical iterations of this vid and found lovely and helpful things to say about all of them, and whose Doctor Who meta continues to be the greatest.

So, I am entirely boring and predictable and have made such_heights a vid for her birthday for the last few years. But this year I was actually ORGANISED - gasp! - and actually started on this WEEKS before her birthday! Rather than, as is more usual, days. Or even hours. I was, in fact, SO organised that I thought of the song before the series had even started. It's a song that's been on my 'To vid' playlist for years, and I knew SH loved it, and I hoped it might turn out to be appropriate for Bill (christened by SH 'my gay space child'). AND THEN. The first episode aired! And NOT ONLY did it have a whole plotline about essentially wishing on a star (in Heather's eye), the Doctor actually referenced the song:

BILL: That's different sky? Is it made of something different? What is sky made of?
DOCTOR: Lemon drops.

It was a SIGN. I was watching it with SH, and had to be careful not to squeak out loud at what was otherwise a fairly innocuous line.

Anyway, I ended up making this week-to-week, adding to it after each ep aired, which was a super fun new vidding experience. I enjoyed it a lot - but it was hard not to just fill up the timeline! Making myself leave gaps for future weeks required lots of self-discipline, especially after Sarah Dollard's episode, which was just a gift. ALSO, I did something I've always kind of wanted to do, and extended the song :-P In two places. By a whole 30 seconds. Heh.

I tried *really hard* to convince myself that I could have it ready in time for SH's actual birthday if I allowed myself to vid only three quarters of the season (a la Stray Italian Greyhound, which is still one of my favourite Amy Pond vids) buuuut my obsessively completionist soul just couldn't do it. And I'm glad, in the end, because whilst I do have a few quibbles about Bill's final episode (mostly buried amongst ALL THE FEELINGS OMFG) I love that she ends up going into space with Heather, and I'm looking forward to alllll the fic and fanart where the pair of them meet up with Clara and Me. <3

Speaking of Me, or rather, me, this is is one of the most me vids I've ever made. Hug montage? Check. Hand motif? People throwing things to each other to denote the start of a relationship? (yeah that one's really specific) Check. Almost entirely composed of clips of people smiling rather than actually *doing* anything? Check. I tried to put some more action-y shots in, but Bill's smile is just SO BEAUTIFUL AND RADIANT that I kept swapping them out again. (Fortunately I was 100% certain that SH would approve of this tactic) And don't even get me started on the way Twelve looks at her, with all that love and fondness and pride and brittle hope in his eyes.<3 I love them both. I really, really hope Bill is back at Christmas (and next season???). And I'm going to miss Twelve *so very much* when he's gone. But that's the show. And I know I will love the next Doctor just as much.

I wish I'd had more meta-thoughts this season. It hasn't panned out - I've barely had the brain to comment on elisi's meta - mostly because a lot has happened over the past year, and I've mostly been tired and my mind feels like it's turned to treacle, or like it's behind frosted glass. But maybe (like the First Doctor!) it will come back? I'd like to be able to meta again. But in the meantime, here are all my feels in vid form.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true ooh oh
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to,
Oh why, oh why can't I?
Well I see trees of green and red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Singing, "How do you do?"
They're really singing, "I, I love you."
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world world
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why oh, why can't I?
