The thing with the needles, and the handcuffs (and also the stars, and Angus-the-broken-head and the various other objects) is that Sherlock sees everything, all the connections between seemingly random things, and so on some level he would definitely see all the links I tried to bring out in the vid. All these objects are symbolic of things in his life, and he would notice those connections, those ironies.
