Comedy Vid Recs Wanted!
HI VIDDING TYPES! *waves*
It is SPRING here in London, and, as ever, that means I've recently passed several important annual milestones: I have eaten and rejoiced in my first creme egg of the year (a sacred moment); I have listened to Paul Simon’s Graceland (the greatest album ever) whilst walking in the sunshine and smiling inanely to myself at how warm it is; and…I’ve had a vidshow approved for this year’s Vidukon!
This year, what with the fact that Everything In The World Is On Fire, I thought we could all do with a short break from the unrelenting misery of the impending apocalypse. SO to that end, I’m planning a COMEDY vidshow :-) I thought a nicely cathartic release of oxytocin could be extremely helpful. Working title is either ‘Tragedy Tomorrow – Comedy Tonight’, from the wonderful Sondheim musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, or 'Make 'Em Laugh', from Singing In The Rain - but alternative title suggestions are welcome.
So: rec me vids, please! Any vid that makes you laugh out loud, or at least grin wildly and flail your hands around in uncontrolled glee – that's what I want! I’m interested in any and all genres – from hugely popular TV shows to niche indie films to RPF to literally anything else. Character studies, crack!vids, dance vids, multifandom tropey extravaganzas…anything that makes you laugh. Watching vids en masse is often a very different experience from watching them alone, so if you remember any funny vids that have had a particularly great reaction at other conventions, do share.
There’s endless ways vids can wring humour from a source – perhaps it’s a funny show in the first place, and the vid makes the most of the characters’ physicality and ridiculous facial expressions, with exquisite comic timing. Perhaps it’s a more serious show, vidded from a new and unexpected angle to get humour from incongruity. Perhaps it’s just pure crack. Ideally, I’d like to end up with a mixture. I aim to make everyone’s sides hurt by the end of the show. :-D
Self-recs are, as always, highly encouraged! And premieres are very welcome. I'm not sure when the deadline is, but if you think you might have a premiere in the works, let me know and I'll investigate.
(Also - come to Vidukon! It's awesome.)

Okay, question: if I can only have one vid to that song, should it be that one, or the Giles one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Uge0nZDI6g

BtVS: Tragedy by DualBunny (if you'll forgive the title! but the visual effects consistently make me laugh)
Criminal Minds: That Don't Impress Me by ohsoleil
Doctor Who:
* Skullcrusher Mountain (particularly the half-pony half-monkey monster or maybe it's just me who couldn't stop laughing for hours at that)
* The Musical by Di (repetitions of "All by myself" but also has an "I get knocked down" moment too if you did want to play with versions of that)
* (Literal Eclipse of the Heart - self-rec; how much people get the joke is likely to depend on their familiarity with the original music vid and the literal version thereof so...)
[at this point I legit broke VLC so I can't double-check the following but I think...]
Maru: What I'm Looking For
ST:TNG: Want You Bad by JMTorres
Yes Prime Minister: A Little Less Conversation

Also, your literal DW vid is amaaaazing :-D Who'd have thought that would work so well!??!

It made me lol the first time I saw it, and still makes me grin when I think of it.
I was especially impressed because the cliché says that television characters don't go to the toilet.

I also adore 9 to 5 by eruthros, Lego Star Wars
I saw on Twitter that you're already planning on bironic's Soccer Practice, which is awesome <3
Hithah was a vidder in House fandom that had funny vids, but she's deleted her vids :(

Am definitely also including 9 to 5 and Soccer Practice, so clearly we share excellent taste in comedy vids. Thanks so much for the recs!

Already some great ones mentioned here. I also love "I am what I am" by thingswithwings (Batman), "i gotta know" by salvamisandwich (hockey, and posted during the lockout so perfect timing), and "Gummi Bears" and "Men of Devotion" by chaiyana (SGA.)

Default (Drunk History) by kiki-miserychic
Dynamite (Brooklyn 99) by elipie
Happy and Proud (Teen Wolf) by Nerjaveika (I think this vidder was raised in the wilds of youtube so they don't follow a lot of fandom conventions and there's a bunch of spelling mistakes but my god the comedic timing of this vid is flawless)
Kinky Neighbors (Batman) by thingswithwings
Maneater (Harry Potter) by jarrow

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpjocsKaI1g - Daredevil gets knocked down and he and his friends drink a lot .- set to Chumbawamba´s "Tubthumping" which is such a "classic" sing along song. the video always cheers me up,its heartwarming in its own way (at least for me).

loki + Primadonna by Marina and the Diamonds
one of the fun/interesting ditchonomy between song choice and visuals.
my fav lyric/visual match was "wrapped around my fingertips"with the very sensual way he touches the hammer.
but it also works as a real character study which is why i really love it. loki wants to dominate but he needs some love and he sabotage himself a lot.
-one of my fav ditchonmy song choice vids is.Moves Like Yaweh by Jetpack Monkey (http://monkeyswithjetpacks.tumblr.com/post/111399297628/moves-like-yaweh-by-jetpack-monkey-password)
but its not comedy at all. it takes the song that is (i guess) about sex (with questionable consents) and showcast so much of the diffcult power balances in the movie. love and how loving someone doesnt always mean nice or same side. or staying with them. (g.d, moses and his brother etc)
I also love: http://jetpack-monkey.dreamwidth.org/473810.html
dawn of the dead + robin sparkles - let´s go to the mall (how i met your mother) its about the things people do when faced with hardship, trying to forget that and clinging together, about fear and not wanting to be the last one standing all alone. it has a beautiful little love story and due to source material a lot of blood and violence
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2n_aBVF-cU&feature=youtu.be
this one is maybe a bit to serious? but the song is so brass so dramatic. and funny in the tonation/pronaciation
the theme is the parallel of bucky and steves story (winter solider. captain america) and the rise of hydra in the shadow of shield.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXd6jAjnMXw
final fantasy 10 + Avril Lavigne - "Sk8ter Boy"
do i agree with the coment of the vidder? no i think its clear that tidus loved yuna. and the reason she rejects him in canon are her feelings of duty and the knowledge she will die.she wants to spare them both any additional pain. but i fell in love with rikku when i first played the game (12 year old and unaware you could love girls like that) and i wished we could have loved her (too(because even as a kid i was a polyshipper).
but the video is edited really well for such a old thing and also an unitentional time capsual brings me back to 6 grade and its pure stupid Alternative Universe Fun.
Assassin's Creed + will.i.am, ft Britney Spears - Scream and shout (the song with "Britney Bitch!") its obivious a fun song choice. but it also has a beat and electric feel like you are playing the game, for me at least. the way gameplay is involved (not just cut scenes) its very clubvid.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrRglLg_pWY&feature=youtu.be
I wanna talk about me | Genie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHasDf0UeWs
okay i dont know if this is okay because its a real small one. but the lyric/scene matches are done real well. and the song has this too big for realz bravedo. it just makes me smile a lot. maybe someone else too.
http://inkjunket.dreamwidth.org/38811.html
mulan. shang falls for ping/mulan. cue gender feels and not straightness set to Christina Aguilera singing her heart out ("Ain´t no other man")
http://fv-poster.livejournal.com/180659.html
The Emperor's New Groove
The Pink Panther Theme by Henry Mancini, makes everything better.it both increase the dramatic and is so conected to childhood nonsense cartoons.
https://youtu.be/7yh9lD6vbts
the lion king + hsm bet on it
i am not sure how comedy this is. on the one hand its a character study. about simba taking responsibilty and stop running from his problems. with a great flow (love the stop part where the past in form of nala catches up to him and everything halts for a moment) and beautiful intercutting, on the other hand its one of hsm most dramatic songs.
whatever it is its fun invents you to sing along and feel all the big highschool emotions
https://vimeo.com/151812841
Bedknobs & Broomsticks + Take It Off by Ke$ha
shows off the fun and magic world of the movie. its real hard to find other people who remeber this movie. we almost destroyed our video version of it by rewinding it so often (our fav part was of cause the flea market dance scenes. such a "this is just like home! feel despite the wwii setting)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HorRCT9gqio
high school musical sings hamiltons "not gonna throw away my shot"
probaly the most pure comedy thing i have here. i have to confess this was the first i heard of hamilton.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AXJNqSkc3I&feature=youtu.be
Mad Max: Fury Road + My chemical romance "na na na na"
the aesthetic match is perfect. its "shiny/chrome" and colourfull. its teenage phatos and shows so much of the immortan joe/war boy cult, how the sisters are viewed as objects and how love/working together saves the day/world
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=0sa7rrj_5Pk
i would walk 500 miles + pacific rim = fun and stupid and very real emotions. sniff (or cry) a bit at "i be the man who comes right home to you" because raleigh does for mako but chuck and stacker doen´t
http://grammarwoman.tumblr.com/post/150089249025/title-star-work-source-star-wars-episodes
star wars (prequels, orginal, swtfa) + Britney Spears - work bitch
the female characters work for what they got and want. badass fun and beautiful way to introduce rey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x41zoq6YNnY
okay i found another "classical" comedy fanvid. fun with audio from a different source.
its old timey vintage couple therapie with han and leia and it makes me alught a lot. (my sibling dont find it funny so it may not be your thing at all)
http://archiveofourown.org/works/6132731
star trek. kirks choice of fighting style (ka throwing his whole body at the enemy)
https://youtu.be/lAluZEa1b8Q
doctor who - wants to shack all his companions.a bit mean spirited humor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zzqOxOYFgs
all the geeks get the girls - primeval (conner temple)
small fandom? maybe. at least today. the show ended a few years ago (5 i think)
this is material form the first 3 seasons. conner temple is a geek and a loser but he has his good moments and the girls in the show are pretty handsy with him.
https://youtu.be/8Xxj96SCtkc
supernatural + taylor swift. because dean would pretent to hate it.
the winchesters dont do space/time apart. beautiful and fun
https://youtu.be/rioNZeQSEmo
supernatural + Corb Lund Band - Always Keep an Edge On Your Knife
a fun little song about always being ready to be killed

Passing by with some more recs
Star Trek
TOS/Monty Python mash-up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luVjkTEIoJc (I'm not sure, I think this may still officially be funniest vid ever.)
Voyager does The Internet Is For Porn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thQEEZuponw
Doctor Who
Babelcolour's 5678: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdENjiUW66w
Fifth Doctor Era partying in Last Friday Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLAn2QfDCfE
(Given all you've got, you probably won't want one tiny era of OLd Who, but I've seen a bunch of these, and this is the best. I think it's probably Turlough).
Blake's 7
(Which is a bit obscure, but less so for a British con and besides canon has the best combination of epic Shakespearean tragedgy and snark combined with the most ridiculous SFX and gloriously OTT costuming, so.)
Fashion is Danger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmqVreKouzM
B7 do the Hokey Cokey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33uIsUBtdto (The vidder has a few others, including Right Said Fred and Benny Hill's tale of Ernie the Milkman, but I suspect these recs are two too many already)
And from possibly obscure to off the scale, but don't ask me why, this is v funny:
BBC 1979 Julius Caesar to Lady Gaga's Poker Face: https://youtu.be/9cop8vfFMcU
(I think it's Richard Pasco's face, probably. The eyebrow lift. Or I'm just very odd, always an option)
The West Wing
High School Never Ends: https://vimeo.com/19567826
ETA: This came up in the B7 links and I'd forgotten it and it may be the funniest. Or the most disturbing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y22_bSqwPPw
(Contains one brief spoiler, although when I say spoiler, I mean, spoilery thing that 40 yr old cult show is most famousest for, so, you know.)
Re: Passing by with some more recs
Re: Passing by with some more recs
I also remembered this, which I didn't think of as comedy, and maybe it isn't, but it is quite sweet and funny: Percussive Maintenance: https://vimeo.com/74965870 (Multifandom, the trope of hitting stuff to fix it)
And from the sublime to the things I probably shouldn't even mention it, I was trying to find some vids of iconic old comedy things, and still the best I could come up with was my old Carry On vid, which is old and was from before I learned more of the noble art of how to change the settings on my ripper etc., but it's short (and the aspect ratio is right!) and if you wanted Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtry, Joan Sims, Hattie Jacques et al in there, there is no other I have found (if you find another LET ME KNOW please) - Even the Bad Times Are Good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3tYKtz_8Vw
