Vids in Space
I don't have the brain at the moment to say anything about Doctor Who, except that I am loving Bill and everything she is, and I continue to adore Twelve, and the chemistry between them is glorious, and this latest episode in particular was everything I dreamed of and more. I will hopefully have meta thoughts soon (certainly The Pilot was crammed full of all of the usual Moffat tropes, about which I have already written copious words) but at the moment I have no energy for anything more complicated than "look at their faces!" (they are REALLY good faces.)
But speaking of 'look at their faces' - I received the most wonderful Doctor/River vid from
jetpack_monkey as my
equinox_exchange gift, which you should go and watch. It's really fun and dynamic and emphasises the playful nature of their timey-wimey relationship. And the lyrics are perfect, and used to great effect!
AND I was very, very lucky and also received a treat in the form of a DS9 Sisko family vid by the wonderful
cosmic_llin, which made my cold robotic heart grow about sixteen sizes, and made me cry. I just. They are SUCH a perfect space family, I don't know what to do about it. And this vid captures that brilliantly.
I defaulted on my own assignment. It was the right decision - I had very stupidly offered a big fandom that I only belatedly realised I wasn't really equipped to vid, and then obviously matched on that fandom, and that fandom only. I gave it a shot, and put off defaulting for a really long time, but gave up in the end. I feel really bad about it - even though I know it happens all the time and that's what the 'default' option is there for, and some amazing picnh-hitter stepped up so my recipient still got a great gift, blah blah blah - and am probably not going to sign up for the next equinox exchange. I have come to realise that I just can't vid to a time limit or to other people's specifications. But I'm glad the exchange exists, and can't wait to see the next outpouring of new vids in the autumn.

I know what you mean about vidding to specifications. I hope that I do vid for Festivids and EE in the future, but probably would do so making treats rather than signing up. In fact I signed up as an EE mod specifically because I loved the idea but knew there was a good chance I wouldn't participate as a vidder.

Yeah, I think in future I will stick to the sidelines on EE and will make treats if I can...I wanted to make treats for this one, but got so hung up on my inability to make my assignment that I ended up doing nothing. Festivids is a bit easier - I've discovered over the years that I can game the system so I can almost always end up with an assignment I want, and I'm really careful to only offer things I KNOW I can vid, because I already have at least one idea for it...which is possibly not quite in the spirit of the exchange, but I don't care :-P

Those vids are so good!
I get you about defaulting - I had a case of too much going on in February and had to default on Festivids this year (despite matching on a relatively short tv source + several safety options) and I felt terrible about it. I defaulted quite late too because I was still hoping I'd manage to make it in the nick of time (as I often do... I'm bad with deadlines).

It's good to know that other people go through the same thought-processes re defaulting! I'm so grateful to the pinch hitter who filled in, and glad my recipient got a great vid in the end. But yeah I think I'm going to sit the next one out! I'll still do Festivids, I think, because I've managed that every year so far (sometimes by the skin of my teeth!) but yeah Real Life is very irritating and gets in the way too often!
