CLAAAAAARAFAAAAAAAACE. <3333! I haven't written anything about the S9 finale yet, because it's still processing and percolating through my brain. I have about 1000 words of random (and kind of unintelligible) notes about various meta points and parallels and things I would like to think about further. But really, my main feelings are twofold:
1) That is the BEST COMPANION ENDING EVER, and EVERYTHING I wanted for Clara-My-Clara. She DOES end up on Gallifrey, as I've hoped all along, but she goes there the long way round :-) :-) And she steals a Tardis and runs away with her space girlfriend to have adventures and she is alive and dead at the same time and oh, it's all so perfect my little heart nearly exploded with joy.
2) I AM SO VERY SAD FOR TWELVE. :-( :-( That is what made me make this vid. I needed to do something to process all my sadness for Twelve and everything he doesn't know he's lost, so I can move on and be *properly* happy for Clara. So I made this. This is a song I've wanted to vid for a long time, but have never had a fandom for it until now - and, as with Never Look Away, the more I listened to it, the more apt the lyrics seemed.
I was intending for my third Clara & Doctor vid to continue in the meta-vein of Never Look Away & Pompeii, and I do in fact have a whole list of potential songs for Big Shiny Meta Vid about their whole wonderful arc...but I got distracted by Feels and made a sad S9 vid instead. I'm sorry /o\

Date: 2015-12-28 03:45 pm (UTC)The first time through I was most struck by the section where you cut back and forth between "Face the Raven" and "Heaven Sent," which so powerfully draws out the parallels between Clara and the Doctor (something that continues as they depart in their respective TARDISes).
On repeat viewings the structure of the vid really shines. I love the way the whole thing is framed as a flashback in which memory interacts with the present (the moment where she throws the screwdriver and he catches it: gorgeous).
I really love what you did on the line "the war almost won." Seeing them say goodbye, knowing that the Doctor is headed for Gallifrey... for me, though I thought "Face the Raven" was a beautiful sendoff for Clara, one of the painful things about that episode was knowing that the Doctor was about to go to Gallifrey and that Clara would just miss it and would never see the result of her actions in the Time War. So I love that your clip choice on this line highlighted that moment and explicitly connected it to the war.

Date: 2015-12-29 03:28 pm (UTC)The Face the Raven/Heaven Sent bit was one of the first bits I made - the music was just calling for it. The parallels between Clara and the Doctor have always fascinated me, ever since Oswin and Victorian!Clara, and the fact that in 'Heaven Sent' it was finally the Doctor - rather than Clara - who became the one to die over and over again was really painful and wonderful. And the idea of Clara having an eternity to live in that flash of light, the idea that whilst she is out there with Me having endless adventures between her final heartbeats, whilst the Doctor is punching his way through a wall of diamond for her...aaaaaah I have too many feels.
And I'm v pleased you feel that way about Vienna, because, er, I may shortly be about to post another DW vid... /o\
