Er, so on a WILDLY DIFFERENT emotional note to my previous entry . . . I made a vid for Hamlet (2009), aka David Tennant's Hamlet :D :D :D I started it last year, making it the fifth (5th) vid featuring David Tennant that I made in the Year Of Our Lord 2019, because apparently one decade on from the Tenth Doctor's regeneration and NOTHING IN MY BRAIN HAS CHANGED. I did not expect this to be my life, this time last year, but here we are.

I love what a collaborative experience vidding can be. I've done quite a bit of beta-ing lately (god I really want to say 'of late'), some of it also for people I really don't know well, and it makes me happy that I can contribute to someone else's art even a tiny fraction of what other people contribute to mine. So, in case you were unaware, Children in Need have recorded an album this year, featuring many awesome actors singing favourite songs. Such as David Tennant singing 'Sunshine on Leith' by The Proclaimers :D (I love him. Have I mentioned that recently? I *love* him)

Anyway, the BBC released Jodie's contribution a few weeks early. I listened to it, then listened to it again, then listened to it about seventy thousand more times, then texted such_heights to say 'shall I vid the thing' and she said 'vid the thing' and so I vidded the thing because I do what she tells me. <3 And then I made her and the wonderful usuallyhats watch it and give me feedback and encouragement, for which I am, as ever, profoundly grateful.

It would be fair to say I had...mixed feelings about this season of Doctor Who. And I had mixed feelings ABOUT having mixed feelings, because god forbid I should just not overthink things for once. I don't want to get into any of those feelings now, and I possibly don't *ever* want to get into them here on this journal. But whatever my feelings about the writing and the episodes and the season as a whole, Jodie as the Doctor was COMPLETELY WONDERFUL. And re-watching this season to make this vid just confirmed that. I love her, I love her beautiful face, I love her total dorkiness, I love her enthusiasm for things, I love her kindness and I love everything about her that makes her the Doctor, just as I have loved every Doctor before her. I love Ryan and Yasmin and Graham. I love the new Tardis. Making this was a joy and a delight and I wish the song was about five minutes longer because there's so much more I wanted to include.

So it has been exactly four (4) weeks since Good Omens graced our screens, and I, um, have made TWO vids for it already?? ( WHAT IS HAPPENINGGGG. )

ANYWAY, shut up Phoebe. Here's a vid about Anathema Device, Agnes Nutter and The Book. It came to me in a flash as I crossed the road listening to Queen, the day before the show actually aired, and I started laughing a bit hysterically to myself in the street. If you are thinking, 'Phoebe, did you make a WHOLE VID just because of one (1) absurdly ridiculous lyric match?' you would be...entirely correct. I never thought I would love the show enough to actually make this. But apparently I do. I also have a newfound appreciation for Adria Arjona's meticulous acting choices, and also for her face.

Er, hi friends! *waves*. It's been a while! But I, like almost the entire rest of my friend group, have fallen MADLY in love with the Good Omens TV series. It's one of my all time favourite books, and I just, I just can't quite believe how wonderful this adaptation is??? I just??? I was expecting it to be GOOD, but I wasn't expecting to lose my fucking mind like this.

So, here's a vid! This one was a LONG TIME in the making. It first occurred to me...five years ago, I think? Well before the TV show was even announced. It was a hypothetical 'if they ever adapted Good Omens, this is what I would love to make' thing. And....and I can't quite believe I have now finally made it?? wtf.

I just thought, you know what, it would be SUPER INTERESTING to make a vid examining all the theological arguments, biblical concepts and questions of morality which are touched on in Good Omens. There's some really interesting metaphysical ideas in there, and it just struck me that someone should make a vid exploring that more closely - and of course, it would have to be set to a piece of suitably epic religious music. So, here's Bach's Mass in B Minor.

Huge, huge thank you to the *truly* ineffable thingswithwings for her amazingly dedicated beta-ing which made this 1000% better, and also to all my jerk friends (hi guys) who have also lost their fucking minds and yelled at me about this a lot.

Festivids reveeeeeeals! I got two wonderful vids - This Sullen Welsh Heart, a Pride vid by futuransky about politics and protest and hope and despair and carrying on fighting anyway. <3 It defies my feeble attempts at explanation, you should all go and watch it and cry.

I also got a treat in the form of You're My Best Friend, aka THE CUTEST SIR IAN & SIR PATRICK BFF VID EVER from my actual bff such_heights(<33333!). It's just a fucking delight. LOOKIT THEM. THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. We are totally going to be like that when we're old and even dorkier than we are now.

I totally meant to make treats this year, but was tragically short on inspiration, and also distracted making two kind of spontaneous Doctor Who vids....oops.

But - HILARIOUSLY - I was actually assigned such_heights as my FV recipient this year! It had to happen sometime, I guess?! We actually matched on several different things, and I can't even remember if this was one of them. But her request for a Verity and Waris vid caught my eye. I promised her that I hadn't made her a treat this year, so she totally thought she had one up on me by making me the aforementioned CUTEST SIR IAN & SIR PATRICK BFF VID EVER. Then It turned out that I'd made her a vid anyway. MWA HA HA. She guessed this vid was from me before even watching it. The metadata was a bit of a clue :-) More ramblings about that ( here )

Wow, never have lyrics from the vid I'm working on been SO RELEVANT to the act of working on the vid.

So, er, I started this one in February /o\ And to be fair, I did make fully two thirds of it in less than a week. It was just the remaining third that took, um, six months. I think that's a new record. (My last Clara vid was a mere two months late.) Most of that time was spent opening FinalCut, shuddering, and closing it again, so perhaps it only really took one month, spread over six months. ANYWAY, it was not supposed to be posted a mere 3 weeks before Series 9, but I'm too excited about it being A MERE THREE WEEKS UNTIL SERIES NINE to care much.

As usual, thanks go to the lovely such_heights for watching a millionty drafts of this, and making soothing noises at me when I complained at her about it. (I'm sorry I do that so much <3) And also for providing the last-minute technical support I still need, despite this being my 31st vid. Oops.

(Speaking of which - if anyone knows how to deal with those FUCKING SQUARE PIXELS that are marring their beautiful faces, please let me know. I don't know why they're there, I've never had this problem before, I want to throw my laptop out the window /o\)

ALSO on this occasion, huge thanks to the amazing elisi, without whom I would definitely never have finished this stupid vid. She went waaaaaay above and beyond the call of vid-beta-ly duty, and sent the most *incredible*, detailed, encouraging, thoughtful, analytical emails, in response to my somewhat pathetic call for help. She also helped me to clarify just what I was actually trying to say - there are one or two parts of this vid that were constructed clip-by-clip with her, via email.
