Quitting tumblr sounds like a good plan. I'm not really on tumblr (don't have an account, just stalk a few people's!) and I've come across this.
Urgh, good point re. the sexual violence imagery, and the punishment for the hubris of outstripping the male lead. I just rewatched The Christmas Invasion, and the Harriet Jones scene just gets SO MUCH WORSE every time. /o\ It's funny - when I first watched that ep, at 16, I don't remember having a problem with it at all. I was sad that Harriet Jones had done the thing, but I was on the side of the Doctor, and was duly impressed by his horrible misogynist 6-word punishment. I think most 16 year olds now are probably much savvier. And obviously, the show later goes on to demonstrate that the Doctor was wrong to act like that, that he causes a whole catastrophic chain reaction by deposing Harriet Jones, and he is ultimately punished for his own hubris. But it's not presented like that in The Christmas Invasion, and it's not Harriet's story we get to watch afterwards.
