OMG so I had the BEST time making this! \o/
My actual FV assignment turned out to be a bit more of a challenge than I had anticipated, and so it was a lovely antidote to make this! I had vaguely thought about making a Local Hero treat ever since I saw
kass request a Capaldi-centric vid, because I love him SO much and he is SUCH an epic dork in this film...but I was stuck for a song. I spent a couple of evenings trawling through my music collection for some kind of folksy, Scottish song, but eventually gave up on the idea when nothing jumped out at me.
AND THEN! And then, a couple of days after the assignment submission deadline, I was at work when I was suddenly STRUCK totally out of the blue by the idea of Walk Of Life. It was so sudden and so obviously perfect I actually genuinely laughed out loud to myself. Fortunately there was nobody else in the office with me. (!) Not only does the song have exactly the kind of fun rhythm I was looking for, it's by the Dire Straits - whose frontman Mark Knopfler, in case you didn't know, composed the score for Local Hero! And I mean really, the lyrics <3 I was looking for something to really highlight Peter Capaldi's absurd physicality, as per
kass's delightful request and COULD THIS BE MORE PERFECT? NO IT COULD NOT. THANK YOU MARK KNOPFLER, THANK YOU. Anyway, the thought of making this vid made me so happy I kept unintentionally grinning to myself in public over the next few days. Eventually one of my colleagues caught me at it and demanded to know what was making me smile so much. I wouldn't tell her, and now I'm pretty sure she thinks I have some kind of secret lover or something. Oh well.
CAPALDIIII <33333 HOW DOES HE EVEN MOVE?! What is that run?! How do his hands work?!? How is his FACE? WE JUST DON'T KNOW. So. Yes. This was super fun to make, even if it did require me to use literally every scene Capaldi appears in. To those of you who enjoyed the vid but have not seen the film - I'm really sorry, Danny Oldsen is not really the protagonist :-( It's still a really great film though.
Here comes Johnny singing oldies, goldies
Be-Bop-A-Lua, Baby What I Say
Here comes Johnny singing I Gotta Woman
Down in the tunnels, trying to make it pay
He got the action, he got the motion
Yeah, the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the day
He do the song about the sweet lovin' woman
He do the song about the knife
He do the walk, he do the walk of life
Here comes Johnny and he'll tell you the story
Hand me down mu walkin' shoes
Here come Johnny with the power and the glory
Backbeat the talkin' blues
He got the action, he got the motion
Yeah, the boy can play
Dedication devotion
Turning all the night time into the day
He do the song about the sweet lovin' woman
He do the song about the knife
He do the walk, he do the walk of life
Walk of Life
