As everyone else seems to be doing it - hi internets, please help me with my VidUKon vidshow! The theme is TROPES, and if anyone can think of a better title than [personal profile] such_heights's suggestion of 'Tropetastic!', please do let me know :-)

So, this is hopefully going to be a joyful show celebrating all the fun that can be had with the tropes that crop in in all our favourite shows. Obvious examples include time loops, doppelgangers and bodyswaps. Tropes can also be character types - the dorky scientist, the badass warrior woman, the unlikely hero...you get the picture. I'm interested in patterns and parallels, so there will probably be a lot of multifandom vids in this show - but if anyone has recs for tropey vids that are confined to a particular fandom (particularly long-running shows like Doctor Who or Star Trek), those are awesome too.

Please rec me vids! When I put together the Constructed Realities show last year, everybody's suggestions were incredibly helpful. Even if you think a vid is really obvious and I've probably seen it, remind me about it anyway! And self-recs are very much encouraged :-)

Are you looking for examples of tropes in shows, like clips or episodes you can use to create a vid, or are you looking for examples of existing vids which contain or are about tropes? (Disclaimer: I'm tired and confused, so I apologise if the answer to this one is obvious.)

[personal profile] giandujakiss's Hourglass is about one of my most favorite tropes, the time loop! And [personal profile] rhoboat's I Think I'm A Clone Now is about doppelgangers. And I love them both a lot.

okay so i had a fairly long and thoughtful explanation here of why i think [personal profile] kuwdora's I Wish I Was James Bond, a DS9 vid, fits the trope theme, but then the cat jumped on the keyboard and made it disappear. so i'm just gonna link it and say, i think it might fit the theme, and let you decide. (the show's multiple takes on secret agents/espionage, each with varying levels of grim reality versus fantasy; fantasy vs. reality; the nature of fantasy in what is, for the viewers, already a fantasy setting; the "ascended fanboy" as tvtropes calls it; probably other stuff that i forgot. but like, it was in sentences.) and it's a single-fandom vid! it might not work, idk, but when i tried to think of single-fandom vids about tropes this is the very first thing that came to mind.

also, it made me think, there MUST be a multi-Trek vid out there about the holodeck, for more takes on fantasy vs. reality and fannishness. and there must be a vid about time travel that's Trek-only. THERE MUST. i don't know of them but they have to exist, surely.

(Re-posting in a more sensible place.)

Yaaay, you are the best, thank you! :D <3

Tropey vids, you've got Skins. Did Amy actually make that one on hands and hand-holding?? And didn't Charmax have one on femeslashy cliches, that 'I'm Your Man' one, or something? (I shall ponder further.)

Here's a link for I'm Your Man which also occurred to me.

Also thingswithwings' We Go Together is all about the trope of (especially) Guys Talking About Things In Bathrooms.

I'm not sure if you're looking for creepier stuff (and of course it - rightly - gets a lot of play at cons already) but there's always [personal profile] laurashapiro's Stay Awake.

Hmm, although 'I'm Your Man' is probably the best-fitting(?), Charmax made a *lot* of tropey vids - I particularly love Space Girl, obviously, I've Been to a Marvellous Party, and Destiny Calling (though maybe I should rec that one to Becca for the superheroes show instead!).

You've probably thought of most of these, but you did say even if it was really obvious(!):

The Price and The Glass, both by thingswithwings.

Flawless by kiki-miserychic (Disney princesses).

Care to Stay by tearful eye (doesn't exactly fit the joyful bit though! Multi-fandom vid about suicide/depression tropes).

A Different Kind of Love Song and The Real Slim Shady, both by giandujakiss.
