Regeneration Vid

I've wanted to vid this song for years. Since around 2010, before I even knew how to vid. It was going to be my Companions Getting On With Life Post-Doctor vid. But I never made it, and anyway

Seen it? Ok then! SO, having discovered that someone else had made the Companions vid of my heart to a different song, I still had If I Ever Leave This World Alive knocking around in my head. And pretty much as soon as Jodie was announced I realised what this song was really about. It was so perfect. And I had to wait for MONTHS to be able to make it. Woe.
I made 99% of it in a mad rush in the few days after Christmas, and had a full timeline (and MANY FEELINGS) by the 30th December. Then I just kind of...stopped. Partly due to disillusionment (there are Shiny YouTube Vidders out there who somehow had astoundingly beautiful, emotional, and technically brilliant Regeneration vids up by like the 27th December. I wasn't really sure why I was bothering with this, which seemed very boring in comparison) and partly because January is a long and dark and stupid month, and I hate it at the best of times, and these are not the best of times. So despite having mostly finished it, I didn't post it or do anything about it for weeks, except for a couple of days when I spent three or four solid hours obsessively poking it, only to emerge in a daze and realise that (a) it was 3am on a work night and (b) I had somehow only changed two clips in all that time. /o\
ANYWAY, blah blah blah vidding is a stupid hobby. Eventually Festivids happened and that kind of kickstarted me into actually wanting to vid again, so that's been nice. It's nice wanting to do things, isn't it? And there was also the increasing frequency with which OS update notifications are popping up on my screen, and I know that - much like with the Doctor and his regeneration - I can't put off the inevitable forever, and once I do update to High Sierra I will tragically no longer be able to use Final Cut Express, my vidding program of choice since 2012. I thought I had better finish this before I have to shell out for, and learn to use, Final Cut Pro. Seems an appropriate vid to end that particular era on.
Huge thank you to

Lyrics
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll thank for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll come back down and sit beside your
Feet tonight
Wherever I am you'll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave this world a-alive
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll take on all the sadness
That I left behind me
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So in a word don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive
So when in doubt just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world
Hey I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive
She says I'm okay, I'm alright
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would
Now everything should be all right
She says I'm okay, I'm alright
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would
Now everything should be all right
Yeah should be alright

Date: 2018-02-04 05:21 pm (UTC)Mind I say that, having just this afternoon had a conversation with my Dad who wanted to know how they had managed to get all that William Hartnell material to work like that. (He was very impressed; I had to disillusion him, although I did try telling him it was because they had an actual time machine.)

Date: 2018-02-03 02:09 pm (UTC)I didn't mention this (partly because work has killed my brain), but one of the most satisfying things is that usually someone will have something brilliant that just hits all the right notes and just sums everything up.
But time there was just... sort of nothing. Lots of very competent vids, but none of them that hit THAT button that just worked for me.
So your vid was SO WELCOME. Different to what I was looking for, but just delightful and oddly contemplative (given the song choice), but also bright and fun and looking towards the future, as well as delving into the past and the rich history of the newly regenerated Doctor.

Date: 2018-02-04 04:38 pm (UTC)Thank you so much! This is a lovely comment :-) You are an excellent reassure-er. I do sometimes get a bit blinded by the technical wizardry (and the SPEED) of some vidders on YouTube, so this is v nice to hear.
BTW, the download link is up now, if you are someone who likes to download vids!
I'm going to read your newest meta post as soon as I have a moment to absorb it properly \o/

Thanks for the link, and the additional meta is... brief, but deep. <3

Date: 2018-02-20 09:33 pm (UTC)It's just really beautiful and poignant and hits all the absolute perfect notes. And ohhhhhhh all the clips of the older Doctors! FEELINGS. And the ending is PERFECT. ARGH. <3

Date: 2018-10-07 12:45 pm (UTC)That said, I think this is exactly what I needed today, so maybe it all worked out how it was supposed to. You've got me all choked up now in the best of ways. I'm gonna miss Twelve something awful, but it is indeed going to be alright.
I love the section about carrying One on with him as he goes. Something about bringing One back in Twice Upon a Time never really fully clicked for me (I liked it, but I felt like I was missing something). This rather does it, though.
Also, lol:
So in a word don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If that's not the most perfect description of how a Doctor Who regeneration goes, I don't know what is. The song choice is inspired.
And on a more technical note, I'm super impressed with how much you managed to do with so very little episode footage. When I started to get the sense of how the vid was going it was like 'damn, gurl.'
Anyway, thank you, it's beautiful, I love it, and I'm gonna go watch it a bunch more times and feel sad and excited.
(Happy Doctor Who day!!)

Date: 2018-10-07 05:37 pm (UTC)The song is just...a LOT. That line you picked out in particular :) So many hilarious ways to interpret it - originally I was going to do something more comical, using footage from other multi-Doctor episodes (so LITERALLY ‘I’ll be here’) but in the end I thought it was more effective kept simple and emotional. God, im going to miss Twelve So Much (his stupid, beautiful FACE) but I am overwhelmingly excited for Thirteen. All is as it should be.
Also...so I watched your vid the day you posted it. And then I watched it again. I’ve watched it four times now and just boggled at it and have had it open in a tab to comment on as soon as I’ve formulated the words. I will get there! It is, in a word, brilliant.
(Happy DWD to you too!! AAAAAAH *collapses*)

Date: 2018-10-08 07:45 pm (UTC)Heh. Very true. I watched the episode yesterday, and it was good fun and Jodie was fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing where it's all going, but it is I will admit, hitting me rather hard that the Moff era is well and properly over now. And that is rough. But I watched this again. Still helping : ) I'll be honest, I think I rely on your vids to cope with this show quite a lot. I still go back and watch 'Howl' whenever I've thought about season six too long and my blood pressure can't take it anymore. And I've had 'Pompeii' in my head a lot this week, thinking about regenerations and new Doctors.
These days I always vid with people like you and Elisi and the rest of the DW meta community in the back of my mind. Even when it’s not really a meta vid.
I totally know what you mean. I'm like 'there are about five people who I need to see this/who I think will really get it, and everybody else is bonus. But I love this little corner of the internet we've all found.
The song is just...a LOT. That line you picked out in particular :)
The ramshackle-y feel of it suits Twelve really well too, I think. Kinda raw and a bit unpolished. I liked the really simple way you treated it. You let the song really do the work (or, you made it look like you did ; )

Lol! But, yeah, you probably made the right decision . . . Such an affecting moment.
God, im going to miss Twelve So Much (his stupid, beautiful FACE)
TELL ME ABOUT IT. (No, but, really . . .) I think we just witnessed a truly special era of Doctor Who. And I am stupidly grateful to Rachel Talaly and all of her gorgeous, lingering shots so that we can do it all proper justice.
but I am overwhelmingly excited for Thirteen. All is as it should be.
SHE IS RATHER GREAT. Though, I do rather want to take her face in my hands and go 'Listen, you. You are not gonna let a single bit of that work go to waste, got it? You are going to be magnificent.' I am rather too invested in the outcome of the last three seasons, lol.

Awwww, thank you <3 No rush, but I would love to hear your thoughts. I, ummmm, may be about to write a huge notes post to go with it. Because I'm that kind of pretentious. And because it's what I'd want to read about other people's vids.
